Christian News: Church News
The Assemblies of God has appointed Dr. James Bradford as its new General Secretary (click here for video). Bradford has a Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Minnesota, where he began his ministry career by starting a small bible study on campus.
Bradford speaks often of his struggles as an open Christian in a secular university, teaching that God prepared him for "big things" by asking him to be faithful in the "little things" -- placing Bible Study announcements on message boards, though few people would respond and attend. "If God has called you to push a rock, you push that rock," whether or not you make any progress, he once remarked to a Church congregation.
Bradford now joins the leadership of the world's largest Pentecostal denomination, with over 283,000 churches and outstations in over 100 countries and approximately 20 million adherents worldwide. The Assemblies of God is also the fourth largest international body of Christians.
Bradford is known for delivering his sermons without any prepared notes, and for his humble and somewhat understated demeanor. He considers himself to be an "introvert" -- once remarking that as an "introverted" pastor, his church attracts "introverted" members -- though those listening to his sermons would probably not guess it.
Prior to joinign the leadership of the Assemblies of God, Bradford was a pastor of Newport-Mesa Christian Center in Orange County from 1988 to 2000. Bradford and his family then pastored Broadway Church in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 2003, Bradford came to Springfield to pastor Central Assembly -- the "flagship" church of the Assemblies of God.
Bradford and his wife Sandi have two daughters, Meredith and Angeline, both of which are now students at Evangel University in Springfield.

Pastor Bradford was my pastor at Newport Mesa Christian Center. Love him! What a great man of God. I remember when They had their first daughter. Wow, I am getting old! He guided me in praying over a lady one night and I remember placing my hands on her back and the heat of the Holy Spirit as we prayed. What an Awesome experience of learning. I am so glad to see him being Blessed!
